Harvey Herschel Korman was an American comedic actor, who, for Disney, portrayed Captain Blythe in Herbie Goes Bananas. He also voiced Baron Efrem von Schnickerdoodle in the 101 Dalmatians: The Series episode "Cupid Pups", Arismap in the Hercules episode "Hercules and the Griffin", Gularis in Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, and a voiceover in Lloyd in Space in "You're Never Too Old". In addition, he guest-starred in The Muppet Show and starred as Reginald Tarkington in the short-lived sitcom The Nutt House, for Touchstone Pictures.
Korman was born in Chicago, Illinois and served in the United States Navy during World War II. After being discharged, he studied at the Goodman School of Drama at the Art Institute of Chicago (now at DePaul University) and at HB Studio. He was a member of the Peninsula Players summer theater program. Korman gained his first television role with The Donna Reed Show and soon gained more work on shows, like Dennis the Menace, The Red Skelton Hour, Route 66, Perry Mason, Empire, The Munsters, Glynis, The Lucy Show, Hazel, The Flintstones, The Wild Wild West, The Tim Conway Show, Mama's Family, Diagnosis: Murder, Hey Arnold!, The Brothers Flub, The Wild Thornberrys, and Happily Ever After: Fairy Tales for Every Child. His most recognized role is being a regular performer on The Carol Burnett Show, for which he won three Emmy Awards.
His film credits included Gypsy, Blazing Saddles, Huckleberry Finn, High Anxiety, Eunice, Bud and Lou, History of the World, Part I, Star Wars Holiday Special, The Trail of the Pink Panther, Curse of the Pink Panther, Alice in Wonderland (1985), Munchies, The Flintstones (1994), Dracula: Dead and Loving It, Jingle All the Way, and The Secret of NIMH 2: Timmy to the Rescue.
Korman died on May 29, 2008, at UCLA Medical Center, as the result of complications from a ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm he had suffered four months earlier. He is interred at Santa Monica's Woodlawn Cemetery.
