Richard Anthony "Cheech" Marin is a Mexican-American actor, voice actor, comedian, writer, and activist, who is well known for his distinctive raspy voice. He is best known for being part of the comedy act, Cheech & Chong, along with Tommy Chong. Marin has had multiple contributions to Disney. He voiced Tito in the 1988 Disney animated feature film Oliver & Company, Chuy Castillos in The Golden Palace, Banzai in the 1994 animated feature film The Lion King, Ramone in the DisneyPixar Cars franchise, David Reynes in Lost, and multiple others listed below.

Marin was born on July 13, 1946, in South Los Angeles, California and graduated from Bishop Alemany High School. He then studied English at San Fernando Valley State College (now California State University, Northridge), where he was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa and graduated in 1968. Marin then moved to Vancouver, British Columbia in September to evade the draft during the Vietnam War where he met his future comedic partner, Tommy Chong, in Calgary, Alberta. Together they produced multiple comedy albums and their own films, such as Up in Smoke, Cheech and Chong's Next Movie, Nice Dreams, Things Are Tough All Over, and Still Smokin.

As a solo performer, Marin appeared in films, such as Yellowbeard, Cannonball Run II, Born in East L.A., Fatal Beauty, the Spy Kids franchise, Ghostbusters II, Troop Beverly Hills, FernGully: The Last Rainforest, Desperado, Machete, From Dusk till Dawn, Paulie, Once Upon a Time in Mexico, Good Boy!, Grindhouse, Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil, The Book of Life, and The War with Grandpa.

Marin's most recognized television role is Inspector/Lieutenant Joe Dominguez in Nash Bridges. He has also appeared in shows, such as Tales from the Crypt, Married... with Children, Happily Ever After: Fairy Tales for Every Child, South Park, George Lopez, Judging Amy, Dora the Explorer, Grey's Anatomy, The Simpsons, Psych, Anger Management, Jane the Virgin, Lodge 49, and Bubble Guppies.

  • He got the nickname "Cheech" from chicharrón, a spicy fried pork skin snack.
