Edgar "E" Gore is a major antagonist of Tim Burton's 2012 animated Disney film, Frankenweenie. He is an eccentric, deformed child who becomes responsible for revealing Victor Frankenstein's secret of resurrection to the other schoolchildren.

Description[]

Edgar “E” Gore is a 10-year-old needy misfit who doesn't have friends but is desperate to be Victor's partner for the science fair. In his attempts to be accepted ‘E’ tends to mess things up and often fails to think before he speaks. Even though ‘E’ promises not to tell Victor’s secret, he accidentally spills the beans.

Appearances[]

Frankenweenie[]

Edgar is first seen attending Mr. Rzykruski'£ class giving out the subject of lightning and thunder during science class where he discusses with his class that the other teacher, Mr. Holcomb had an incident as Edgar replies that he was hit by lightning which Mr. Rzykruski denies, telling him that lightning does not hit a person the way they are hit by a baseball or a cabbage, as lightning is simply electricity just as he continues giving his class a subject about lightning and electricity. After class, he later approaches Victor, telling him that he must have a partner to participate in the science fair, offering him to pick Edgar as a partner, which Victor tells him that the use of death rays is not allowed when participating, telling him that he works alone. During a game of baseball, Edgar watches Victor participating, alongside the other students which Victor suddenly gets a home run during the game, causing the crowd to react.

The next day, Edgar encounters Sparky who is shown to be revived which Sparky runs away. Edgar then visits Victor's house who is aware of Sparky who was brought back to life. As Edgar enters the attic with Victor, he demonstrates with Edgar the process of how to revive Sparky works. After Edgar retrieves a dead fish from the pet store, he and Victor successfully revive the dead fish, turning it into an invisible fish. Curious of why the fish he brought turned invisible, Victor tells Edgar that he should avoid telling anyone about that until he figures out how the electricity process works. Edgar then shows the invisible goldfish to Toshiaki and Bob to see how the the invisible fish looks like which Toshiaki uses a lamp to reveal the shadow of the goldfish, which Edgar plans to keep it a secret. The next day at school, Nassor confronts Edgar to know if he has the invisible goldfish just as Edgar shows him the jar where the invisible fish is contained which Nassor doesn't feel the fish, which Edgar himself reacts in shock. As Edgar tries to ask Victor to know what happened to his fish, Victor returns to the attic to fix the problem for his fish, only to see Sparky who is safe after all.

Later, Edgar meets Toshiaki, Nassor, and Bob at the baseball field where Nassor is confused, thinking that Edgar brought an animal back from the dead, which Edgar replies that it was Victor who did this just as Toshiaki and Nassor confront Edgar to know if this is possible as well as Bob who faces him just as Toshiaki tells him that it's his chance to prove that this is possible before Victor wins the science fair. At the New Holland Elementary School, Edgar finds a dead rat from a trash can and plans to revive it on the teacher's table. As lightning strikes the flagpole, the rat becomes electrocuted, becoming a monstrous rat, followed by Mr. Whiskers, the Sea-Monkeys, Colossus, and Shelley just as Edgar leaves. Later, Edgar arrives at the carnival where the rat he brought to life has mutated into a monstrous rat, just as Edgar escapes from it and later a group of Sea-Monkeys in fear, trying to escape from them. It is unknown of what happened to Edgar after that.

Trivia[]

  • Edgar is designed after the Igor side character in Son of Frankenstein.
  • Atticus Shaffer has stated that he patterned Edgar's voice after that of iconic film actor Peter Lorre, keeping with pop-cultural conventions of associating Lorre with the Igor archetype despite never actually playing him.
  • In the film, when Edgar revives a dead rat it mutates into a lycanthropic rat-creature which has features similar to The Wolfman.
