"Rightful Owners" is a four-part comic book story arc featured in the first four issues of Boom! Studios' short-lived DuckTales comic book, written by Warren Spector. Although advertisements and solicitations for the comic stated that Miquel Pujol would be illustrating the story, he had actually declined on drawing the comic; thusly, it was instead drawn by Leonel Castellani, Jose Massaroli, and Magic Eye Studios.
Summary[]
When Scrooge has an exhibition at the Duckburg Museum, showing off all the treasures he has acquired in his adventures, Webby comes to the conclusion that he should return all the items in his collection to their "rightful" original owners. Scrooge balks at the idea until John D. Rockerduck announces that he's doing the same thing with his treasures, and it becomes a competition between them.
Notes[]
- This is John D. Rockerduck's first appearance in DuckTales media.
- The San Diego Comic-Con exclusive cover for issue #1 is a spoof of the cover to the Super Mario Bros. game for the Nintendo Entertainment System.
- The "B" cover to issue #3 is an homage to the cover of Gladstone Comic Album #15: Donald and Gladstone.
- The "B" cover to issue #4 is an homage to the poster for Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
Errors[]
- Scrooge is shown to have the golden coat that he made at the end of the original "Golden Fleecing" comic story, and also recalls the events of the original comic book story, which played out very differently from the DuckTales adaptation.
- Likewise, he is also shown to still possess the Candy-Striped Ruby from the original "Status Seekers" comic story, which contradicts the DuckTales adaptation where the MacGuffin was the Mask of Cuthululu.
- Webby is surprised by the presence of the dinosaurs at Scrooge's museum exhibition, which contradicts the fact that she and the others visited a lost valley full of dinosaurs in "Dinosaur Ducks", not to mention the fact that Bubba and his pet Triceratops Tootsie live on the mansion grounds.
- Launchpad does not seem to recognize Camille Chameleon from their previous encounter.
- Daisy refers to Cinnamon Teal being from St. Canard, despite Cinnamon having never actually appeared on Darkwing Duck.
