Djimon Gaston Hounsou is a Beninese-American actor and model, who played Vivo in the 1998 Hollywood Pictures film Deep Rising, Caliban in the 2010 Miramax/Touchstone film The Tempest, and Korath the Pursuer in the 2014 Marvel science-fiction action film Guardians of the Galaxy. He reprised the role in Captain Marvel and in What If...?. He also played Shola in The King's Man.

Outside of Disney, Hounsou is known for his role as Cinqué in the 1997 Steven Spielberg film Amistad (for which he had received a Golden Globe Award nomination), and Juba in the 2000 Universal/DreamWorks Pictures film Gladiator. Some of his other roles in films (many of which are supporting roles) include Mateo Kuamey in the 2002 Fox Searchlight Pictures film In America, Solomon Vandy in the 2006 Warner Bros. film Blood Diamond, and Mose Jakande in the 2015 Universal Pictures film Furious 7. He also voiced Black Panther in the 2010 television series of the same name and Drago Blodfist in the 2014 DreamWorks Animation film How to Train Your Dragon 2. He also had roles in the DC Extended Universe, including King Ricou in the 2018 film Aquaman, and Shazam the Wizard in the 2019 film Shazam!, the latter role in which he is set to reprise in its 2023 sequel Shazam! Fury of the Gods, as well as the 2022 film Black Adam, and Man on Island from the 2021 Paramount Pictures film A Quiet Place Part II and its upcoming 2024 spin-off film. Recently, he voiced Sumo in the 2022 computer-animated martial arts comedy film Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank.
