Disney Eyeing Live-Action 'The Little Mermaid' Subscribe Now! ►

Disney may have their eye on turning another of their animated classics into a live-action film and we’ve got the details right now. Today’s episode of News Feed is brought to you by T-Mobile. Binge watchers and music lovers, switch to the Un-Carrier and do more with your data. It looks like Disney could be going under the sea for real for their next live-action fairy tale. Hot on the heels of their tremendously successful The Jungle Book and early buzz for next year’s live-action Beauty and the Beast movie, Deadline brings word that Walt Disney Studios is in the early stages of giving The Little Mermaid the live-action treatment. While the film has not yet received an official greenlight, according to sources the studio has heard a new take on the project and has already met with producers and is deciding whether or not to move forward. If Disney does decide to make the film, they will already be in competition with another Little Mermaid film currently in the works at Universal. The film is set to star Neighbors 2’s Chloe Grace-Moretz as the title character, but will likely be a more accurate adaptation of the Hans Christian Anderson story. Of course, the Disney film would benefit tremendously from the slew of classic songs from the 1989 animated film including “Under the Sea”, “Part of Your World” and “Kiss the Girl”. Disney has been gearing up their live-action slate of films as of late and adding The Little Mermaid to the mix seems like a no-brainer. The Jungle Book has made over $860 million worldwide so far and the trailer for Beauty and the Beast starring Emma Watson this week beat Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ record for most views with around 92 million in the first 24 hours. Other films set to arrive in theaters in the coming years include Maleficent and The Jungle Book sequels, a sequel to Mary Poppins starring Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda of Hamilton fame, Cruella starring Emma Stone as the 101 Dalmations villain, a live-action Dumbo movie from director Tim Burton and a live-action Tinker Bell movie starring Reese Witherspoon as the title fairy. So, what do you think of Disney potentially making a live-action The Little Mermaid movie? Is it something you’d like to see and who do you think could star as “Ariel”?
