On this date, July 17th, 1955, Disneyland opened its gates, and ABC aired a TV special celebrating the grand opening of the "Happiest Place on Earth", Disneyland. In honor of its 56th anniversary, I will be present to you a TV special that you've never seen before. The hosts for this special including the late Art Linkletter, Bob Cummings and the late Ronald Regan who before he became the president of the US back in the 1980's all in one great special.
Part 1 opens with an introduction made by Charlie Weaver. And then Art Linkletter was on the spot at the Disneyland Railroad to be waited for the opening crowd including celebrities and guests to welcoming into Disneyland. And then, Main Street USA and Town Square were people are waiting for the last minutes while they are performing. And then, Walt Disney arrived from the train to visit Art along with the people from the railroad joining in. And then, after that, Walt Disney made his dedication on his opening day. This would be one of the most classic speeches in history on its opening day and it would live forever, and then the parade has just started.
Stay tuned for part 2 as we will bringing you Frontierland to see the Old West and Davy Crockett.
BTW, this special was included as part of the "Walt Disney Treasures" series of DVD's entitled "Disneyland USA". I recorded it off of the Disney Channel back in the late 90's as part of "Vault Disney". Check out in its entirety. As I said, will be back for part 2 where we will take you to Frontierland.
