Roscoe Lee Browne was an American actor and director, known for his rich voice and dignified bearing. He was best known for his role as Dr. Barnabus Foster in the NBC sitcom The Cosby Show. He also voiced the Narrator in both the 1995 comedy-drama film Babe and the 2006 live-action comedy film Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties, as well as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin in Spider-Man: The Animated Series (19941998).

For Disney, he voiced Francis in the 1988 Disney animated feature film Oliver & Company, Mr. Arrow in Treasure Planet, and Clarence Saint-John in The Proud Family episode "Wedding Bell Blues". He also played Gazenga in The World's Greatest Athlete. Additionally, he narrated the vinyl audiobook The Story of Star Wars, based on A New Hope, then simply titled Star Wars.

Browne died of stomach cancer in Los Angeles, California on April 11, 2007, at the age of 84. He was cremated and remembered for his contributions in a New York Times encomium by Frank Crohn, President of the Edna St. Vincent Millay Society:

We mourn the loss of our long-time Trustee and faithful friend. He was always to be counted upon to be supportive of the aims and purposes of the Society. He filled our lives with the soft sound of poetry as only he could recite it. Now the stage is empty and the lights are low.
