The Bears and I is a 1974 adventure film directed by Bernard McEveety and produced by Winston Hibler, who is known for producing many Disney films relating to nature in the 1950s. The Bears and I was based on the book of the same name by Robert Franklin Leslie. John Denver also recorded an original song for the film titled "Sweet Surrender".

Synopsis[]

After being discharged from the war in Vietnam, Bob Leslie travels to Canada to inform his friend's father about his passing. There, he is thrust into the role of raising three bear cubs after their mother is shot, and tries to help the local Natives get their land back.

The film's score was composed by Disney veteran Buddy Baker, his fifteenth for the company. John Denver also recorded an original song named "Sweet Surrender" for the film, which was later released on his eighth studio album Back Home Again and became a commercial success in the US, peaking at #13 on the Billboard Hot 100.
