Elizabeth "Lizzie" James is one of the deuteragonists of the 1998 remake of The Parent Trap (the other being her ex-husband Nick Parker). She is the divorced mother of both identical twin protagonists, Hallie Parker and Annie James, and the latter lives with her in London, England. She was portrayed by the late Natasha Richardson.

History

In 1986 Elizabeth James decided to take the QE2 Boat from London to New York since she was afraid of flying. On board she met Nicholas "Nick" Parker who was from California and who also was afraid to fly to New York. They eventually fell in love and married on the ship, getting their picture taken from a photographer on the ship. Shortly afterwards on October 11 Elizabeth gave birth to twins Annie and Hallie but for some reason she and Nick divorced shortly afterwards and Elizabeth gets custody of Annie and takes her to London while Nick gets custody of Hallie and takes her to California with both parents deciding to not tell the twins about each other. In London Elizabeth and Annie moved in with Elizabeth's widowed father Charles James and Elizabeth gets a job as a designer designing wedding gowns and eventually becomes famous for it. In the Summer of 1998 Elizabeth sends Annie to summer camp at Camp Walden unaware that Nick has sent Hallie there also where the girls meet each other for the first time and decide to switch places hoping to reunite their parents. When Hallie returns to London as Annie she is reunited with her mother at her house to which Elizabeth believes that she is Annie, unaware of the switch and asks her to come to the studio where she works to which Hallie does and gets her picture taken with the wedding model at the studio. Afterwards Hallie asks her Mom how she and her dad meet to which Elizabeth explained how she and Nick met (read the events from above). The next day at lunch Hallie asks her mom to try the wins that she dranks to which she does and guesses the grape made in the wine came from California to which Elizabeth and her father believe that she has learned about wine at the Summer Camp, still unaware that it's Hallie and not Annie. When Hallie goes outside to receive a phone call from Annie in California, telling her that their dad is planning on remarrying to a young woman named Meredith Blake, Hallie is caught by her grandfather to which she goes into her mother's bedroom and reveals to her that she is Hallie and that Annie is Napa with Nick and that they switched places to which sends Elizabeth in shock but she tells Hallie that she's loved her her whole life and decides to go with Hallie to California to switch the girls back but promises Hallie to talk with her father about a new custody arrangement so the girls can see each other every holiday of the year, unaware that her ex-husband is planning on remarrying a young girl. Once in California Elizabeth and Hallie go into the Staford Hotel to meet Nick, who is actually there to meet Meredith's parents unaware that his ex-wife is there also and of the switch. Once inside the hotel Elizabeth gets separated from Hallie and Martin her butler whom accompanied them on the trip, when she left her purse behind and she meets up with Annie, whom she thinks is Hallie and tells her to meet her upstairs to which Chessey, the Parkers' butler takes her upstairs. When Elizabeth walks back to the elevator she catches Nick with Meredith in the elevator and she waves mindless to Nick while Nick is stunned to see her. Once upstairs Elizabeth is reunited with her twin daughters and Chessy whom take into the room and she tells them about seeing Nick in the elevator to which the twins tell her that their dad is remarrying to the wrong woman for him and that she and Nick should reunite because they're perfect for each other but Elizabeth says she doesn't wish to reunite with Nick but wishes to switch the twins back. Elizabeth then goes downstairs to the bar and gets a drank and meets Meredith Blake, unaware that this the girl that Nick is marrying, who tells Elizabeth that she loves a wedding gown she designed. Outside Elizabeth is reunited with Nick and the twins are revealed to which surprises Nick and Elizabeth asks the girls if she can talk with their father alone
