Center City is a fictional American city that serves as the main "real-world" setting in Tron and Tron: Legacy.

Center City serves as the headquarters of ENCOM International, a major information technology corporation founded in 1972 by Walter Gibbs. ENCOM manufactures computer software (ENCOM OS 12) and video games (Tron, Space Paranoids). The company was headed by Kevin Flynn from 1982 until his mysterious disappearance in 1989. Flynn also managed Flynn's Arcade, a popular haunt for gamers during the 1980's. Flynn's Arcade shut down following Kevin's disappearance.

Canadian bank Scotiabank apparently maintains offices in downtown Center City skyscraper, and American retail chains such as Staples and Starbucks operate branches in the downtown area.

Law enforcement

Law enforcement is provided by the Center City Police Department, with downtown services provided by the Center City Police Department Metro Division.

Notable natives and residents

  • Alan Bradley, developer of Tron security program, current ENCOM chairman
  • Kevin Flynn, software developer, president of ENCOM from 1982–1989
  • Sam Flynn, current largest shareholder of ENCOM International

Behind the scenes

Most scenes featuring Center City were filmed on location in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. This explains the appearances of Canadian businesses such as Scotiabank. Vancouver's Living Shangri-La building served as the ENCOM Tower in the film.

The building used for the exterior of Flynn's Arcade is the Hull Building in Culver City, California.
