Casey Bats Again is an animated short that first premiered on June 18, 1954. A sequel to the Make Mine Music segment Casey at the Bat, it tells the story of Casey's daughters forming a baseball team and redeeming his reputation.

Summary[]

Shortly after Casey's infamous strikeout, his wife (known only as "Mrs. Casey") reveals that she's pregnant with their first child -- Casey's excited to hear this and hopes to have a son so he can have him follow in his footsteps as a baseball player (and hopefully redeem his reputation). He reveals the news to his friends (even passing out cigars), who congratulate him.

Mrs. Casey eventually goes into labor, and a panicked Casey calls the hospital so the doctor can come and help his wife. It's not until after the doctor hands him his newborn child that he even notices that the doctor's already at his house. A few days later, Casey happily teaches his child baseball. However, Mrs. Casey attempts to explain something, but Casey is too happy to listen. But Casey is shocked when he discovers that his child is a daughter instead of a son.

Casey and his wife try several more times in the hopes of having a son -- through at least six pregnancies, Casey and his wife end up having a total of nine children. But just like with his first child, Casey's next eight children are all girls. The rest of the Mudville Nine feel bad for Casey, but then they realize that Casey's daughters can still redeem his reputation as a baseball player, especially since they prove to be just as good at baseball as their dad was (if not better), which is demonstrated while the girls are doing chores around the house. After his friends point this out to him, Casey ends up forming an all-girls baseball consisting of his daughters (now called "The Caseyettes").

On the day of a big game, Casey becomes overcome with worry that what happened to him at the end of his career will end up happening to his daughters. When the bases are loaded and it's time for his oldest daughter, Patsy, to take the plate, Casey pulls her off and goes up to the plate himself (disguised in drag). But just like in his last game, he gets two strikes (though not on purpose) -- just as he's about to strike out a third time, Patsy steps up behind him and hits a home run, winning the game and ultimately restoring Casey's reputation as a baseball player.
