"Buried Treasure" is the second segment of the thirty-third episode of Recess.

Synopsis[]

The Gang find a treasure map and go on a quest to find the treasure.

Plot[]

Miss Grotke has all the students look in their history books, but T.J. is forced to use an old one. He discovers a map to hidden treasure within it and hides it until recess. He shows the Gang the map and they decide to hide it among themselves. They proceed to follow the paces to find it, during which Miss Finster becomes suspicious and tries to share her findings with Principal Prickly who acts with indifference throughout the episode. The Recess Gang hit a road block when they discover that the hiding spot is underneath the parking lot. They reluctantly let the Diggers in on their adventure, but point out that they need to dig within the Ashleys' clubhouse, forcing them to let them in on the wealth. While spreading the dirt, Mikey accidentally lets Randall in on it and hire him as lookout.

Vince and Spinelli, overwhelmed by the possibility of riches decide to continue the dig without everyone else, only for the rest of the Gang to figure out what they are doing. Together, they discover that the Diggers, Ashleys and Randall were plotting to steal the treasure for themselves. They fight over the treasure, but T.J. tries to calm the situation by admitting that the treasure has turned them into monsters and that he is no longer interested in what is in it. The treasure breaks open and find that it is full of old toys. A note reveals that kids from years ago put their own toys there for others to play with and suggest adding new ones. Moved by the message, they decide to do so while also playing with the toys first. It is revealed that Prickly was one of the original kids and calls his friend to tell them that the treasure has been found.

Trivia[]

  • This episode is considered to have the most off-model animation of the series, as Toon City's animation suffered with a lot of colorization errors, inky outlines, off-model appearances of characters, and several others. After this episode, "Bonky Fever" became the last episode to have animation made by Toon City possibly due to its problems about it.
