Bob Sweeney was an American actor, director, and producer of radio, television, and film, who, for Disney, included the role of bad guy Harry Tupper in Toby Tyler (1960), Sen. Henry McGuire in Moon Pilot (1962), and Mr. Harker in Son of Flubber (1963). As a director, he directed the Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color episode "Bristle Face" and The Magical World of Disney episode "The Absent-Minded Professor: Trading Places".

Sweeney was born in San Francisco and a graduate of Balboa High School and San Francisco State College. In the early part of World War II, he entertained troops at military bases. From 1944 through 1948 he teamed with comedy partner Hal March in "The Bob Sweeney-Hal March Show" on CBS Radio and later went on to appear as a supporting character in various sitcoms in the early days of television, including My Favorite Husband, The Rifleman, The Brothers, Fibber McGee and Molly, Love and Marriage, and Our Miss Brooks. Sweeney's most notable film credits as an actor included The Last Hurrah, Marnie, South Sea Woman, A Christmas Carol (1954), Mister Scoutmaster, and A Raisin in the Sun.

Helater found success as a television director and producer, most notably as the director of the 102 episodes of The Andy Griffith Show and as producer and/or director of episodes of several other highly successful TV series, including That Girl, Hawaii Five-O, The Love Boat, Matlock, Hogan's Heroes, Dynasty, Spencer's Pilots, and Accidental Family.

Sweeney died of cancer on June 7, 1992.
