“Unfaithful lover long since dead. Deep asleep in thy wormy bed. Wiggle thy toes, open thine eyes, twist thy fingers toward the sky. Life is sweet, be not shy, on thy feet, so sayeth I!”
―Winifred's spell to awaken Billy
William "Billy" Butcherson is Winifred's ex-boyfriend and the tetratagonist of Disney's 1993 live-action film Hocus Pocus. He is portrayed by actor Doug Jones.
Role in the film
When he was first alive, Billy dated Winifred Sanderson. Unfortunately, she found out he had an affair with her little sister Sarah Sanderson. An angry Winifred poisoned him and sewed his mouth shut with a dull needle so he could not tell her secrets, even in death. He died on May 1st, 1693.
Three hundred years later on Halloween, Winifred resurrected him and instructed him to get her book back from Max, Dani, Allison, and Binx. They escaped through the sewers and Max knocked Billy's head off. He then ended up aiding the kids in trying to defeat the Sanderson Sisters in the cemetery; once they were defeated at sunrise, he returned to his grave. With a big yawn, he flopped back in the ditch.
Billy: (to Winifred, after finally freeing his mouth) "Wench! Trollop! You buck-toothed, mop-riding, firefly from Hell!" Billy: (to Max) I've waited centuries to say that.
