Big Mean Carl is a large Muppet monster who was introduced in the 1990s and, like several other Muppet monsters, has a very voracious appetite and will eat anything and everything, including other Muppets.
He first appeared in the 1992 Muppet Meeting Film Think Bigger, then acquired his familiar persona and became famous on Muppets Tonight in 1996. Sometimes, his name is changed to "Carl the Big Mean..." due to a different act he performs. At the end of his sketches, he thanks the audience with a "Thank you!".
In "There is Nothing to Fear in Here" on The Wubbulous World of Dr. Seuss, the monster was modified for "The Glox" leaving out the horns and nose. The eyes were also replaced and the fur tuft on the stick was temporarily on the head. The puppet was performed by Leslie Carrara-Rudolph where the monster was portrayed as a monster who eats socks and rocks in Sarah Hall Small's closet who disappears with the drum she banged on to make monsters leave.
