Benedict Timothy Carlton Cumberbatch (born July 19, 1976) is an English actor, producer and voice actor who is best known for his roles as Smaug and The Necromancer (both motion capture and voice) in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit film trilogy, and as Khan Noonien Singh in the 2013 science-fiction action film, Star Trek Into Darkness. He currently stars as fictional detective Sherlock Holmes on the BBC/PBS crime drama series Sherlock since 2010 with Martin Freeman as Watson.
He played Major Jamie Stewart in the 2011 film War Horse, and Julian Assange in the 2013 film The Fifth Estate, which were both under the Touchstone Films banner.
He will play the titular Doctor Strange, in the upcoming Marvel Studios film of the same name and in Spider-Man: Homecoming and Avengers: Infinity War.
