The Bayou of New Orleans is one of the central location the Disney's 2009 animated feature film The Princess and the Frog.

The bayou is, in the film, presented as a mystical and mysterious place, that can be both warm and welcoming, but also dark and dangerous. It is the home to various flora, as well as unique and quirky fauna, such as gators (most notably the trumpet-playing alligator, Louis), a massive family of seemingly magical fireflies (the most notable of which being Ray), and most notably, the kindly voodoo priestess, Mama Odie, who is well known among the bayou's inhabitants, and has even been dubbed the "Voodoo Queen of the Bayou".

The Princess and the Frog

After being transformed into frogs, Tiana the waitress and Prince Naveen accidentally find themselves lost in the bayou, being attacked by various animals such as gators and cranes in the midst. They find refuge in a tree, and the following day, the meet Louis the gator, who offers to guide them to Mama Odie, in order to break the spell. Along the way, they meet and befriend Ray the firefly, and despite various obstacles, manage to find Mama, who advises the two to return to New Orleans to kiss a princess in order to break the spell. The group does so by traveling along one of the passing riverboats heading to the city for Mardi Gras.

Later on, Tiana, Naveen, and Louis returned to the bayou with a deceased Ray, who was killed by Dr. Facilier and given a proper funeral by his friends and family.

Just before the finale, Tiana and Naveen (still frogs) have a wedding ceremony in the bayou, where they return to their human forms as a result of Tiana becoming a princess through marriage, with the kiss shared with Naveen breaking the spell.
