Mommy's going to the beauty parlor, darling. But I’m leaving you with your favorite friend, Roger. He's going to take very, very good care of you. Because if he doesn't, he's going back to the science lab.
―Mrs. Herman to Baby Herman and Roger Rabbit[src]

Baby Herman's Mother (or Mrs. Herman) is a minor character in the 1988 film Who Framed Roger Rabbit, who took a major role in the short films that spun off from it. She is the mother of Baby Herman, who's only ever seen from the waist down.

Background[]

Personality[]

Mrs. Herman appears to be a caring mother to her son, Baby Herman, but is always threatening Roger Rabbit if he does not do a good job of babysitting. She also likes psychics, such as Madame Clarabella, as seen in Roller Coaster Rabbit, and hunting, as seen in Trail Mix-Up.

Physical appearance[]

Mrs. Herman is usually seen wearing a dress, tights, high heels, a bracelet on her right wrist and a ring. Each of her appearances have her wearing a different dress, each with a different color and pattern, making them unique (with the exception of the dresses in the movie and Trail Mix-Up respectively), and it is revealed that the dresses are short-sleeved in Tummy Trouble. Trail Mix-Up is the only short where she does not wear tights nor high heels, because she is instead wearing boots and socks. In the movie, she wears a light green bracelet, and in Trail Mix-Up, she wears a bracelet the same color as her dress (light blue).

Appearances[]

Who Framed Roger Rabbit[]

Mrs. Herman only appears at the beginning of the Somethin's Cookin' cartoon, where she tells Baby Herman that she is going to the beauty parlor and leaves Roger Rabbit in charge of him. She tells Roger that he will take very, very good care of him and that if he fails, he will be going back to the science lab. Roger tells her he'll do a good job as she walks past him and leaves the house.

Later, Mrs. Herman is revealed to be a pair of oversized mechanical legs with a skirt draped around them controlled by someone.

Shorts[]

Mrs. Herman makes multiple brief cameos in a series of Roger Rabbit cartoon shorts following the popularity of the film. In each of his shorts, she leaves Baby Herman under the care of Roger Rabbit while she is away.

Tummy Trouble[]

At the beginning of the short, Mrs. Herman tells Baby Herman not to cry and reassures him that she'll only be gone for an hour as she approaches Roger, who has her handbag. She then says that everything is going to be just fine, unlike last time (presumably the film). Roger then tells her not to worry and that he's learnt his lesson as Mrs. Herman being to exit. As Roger continues talking, he then hands her her handbag which she snatches off him before closing the door. Later, when Baby Herman is in the hospital, a picture of her is in the room, which falls to the ground and breaks when Roger suddenly enters.

Trail Mix-Up[]

Mrs. Herman is first seen skipping to the place there gonna set up camp at Yellowstain Park, while Roger and Baby Herman follow slowly behind her. After Roger drops all their supplies and gets himself tied up upside down with some rope, Mrs. Herman pulls out a switchblade and threatens him with it. Roger promises to not mess up again and she decides to give him another chance, freeing him with the switchblade. She then pulls out a double-barreled shotgun, telling the boys that she's going hunting. Roger insists on her taking Baby Herman, but Mrs. Herman tells him that Baby Herman is staying with him. Before leaving she reminds Roger that if he got into any trouble "Rabbit season, opens today!"

Roller Coaster Rabbit[]

Mrs. Herman goes to the fair with Roger and Baby Herman. Where she wags her finger at Roger after he mentioned going on all the rides because Baby Herman is too little to go on the rides. Soon she sees a psychic named Madame Clarabella and attempts to leaves Roger with the baby while she goes and has her palm read. Roger then tugs on her dress and accidentally rips out her underwear because he doesn’t want to watch over Baby Herman. Mrs. Herman then says if Roger doesn’t watch over Baby Herman then she’ll make him into rabbit stew for dinner. Roger then says he’ll watch over Baby Herman while painting Mrs. Herman’s nails in fear that he’ll get turned into stew.
