Rose with papers

Jake, Grandpa, and Fu Dog fight the Huntsman and Huntsgirl for a magical scarab beetle. Jake comes in, swinging from a rope, and knocks the Huntsman and Huntsgirl into the water, but he crashes into the wall. Grandpa grabs the scarab beetle from on top of the dead flowers and escapes. Jake asks him what is so important about that beetle, and it is shown that the flowers were revived.

At school, Jake tries to go talk to Rose, but Trixie tells him that he should just go right in front of her and ask her out. Jake tells her to just sit tight and learn. When Jake goes up to Rose, he says, "Hey, Rose! Haven't been able to dance with you since the talk… I mean talk…" and Rose replies, "It's cool. I know what you mean. Nice you see you too." Trixie is watching by the computers and says, "All that I'm learning is that Jake's Mac Daddy moves are whack!" At that moment, the drama teacher comes in and told Rose that she has to get ready to audition for the school play. Rose tells Jake that they will talk later, but the drama teacher Ms. Jenkins says that she has to "drink, eat, sleep like Cleopatra". Jake gets the idea to audition for Mark Antony, but Trixie thinks that he should just ask Rose out.

Later, in Grandpa's shop, Jake daydreams about Rose and the play. Grandpa snaps him out of his daydream and asks him if he was listening. Jake replies, "Sure. You were… just… saying… some ancient Chinese proverb that holds the key to me learning a valuable lesson?" Fu Dog says, "Grandpa was saying that you have to guard the beetle until we find a way of returning it back to Egypt." Jake agrees and goes back to daydreaming about the play.

In school, Jake and Rose agree to practice. Jake says that they should go to Rose's place, but before Rose can speak, they head out. In Rose's "mansion", Jake is checking out the books. However, when he takes out one of the books, a secret wall appears, and Jake puts back the book without even noticing. Later, as they are about to practice Act 4, Scene 15, Rose's "uncle" comes and ruins everything. Rose rushes Jake out the door and apologizes.

The next day, they try to figure out where to rehearse. Rose suggests they go to his house, but Jake takes her to his Grandpa's shop instead, and they practice there. However, Jake gets nervous and starts acting weird, and accidentally lets the beetle loose.

The next day, they are practicing at Trixie's house. However, just as they are about to kiss, after Jake is finally cooled down, Trixie interrupts. Jake and Rose suddenly see the beetle and they both make up excuses to go to the roof without the other knowing. On the roof, Jake turns into the American Dragon, and Rose turns into Huntsgirl. The two rivals fight and make up excuses to go back. Huntsman arrives and retrieves the beetle, and Jake and Rose escape.

Jake and Rose

In Grandpa's shop, they discuss how to get the beetle back. In school, Jake and Rose come over and tell each other at the same time that they cannot make it to the play. Upon hearing this, the drama teacher faints. However, they say they might be able to make it back in time. Right then, Spud figures out the location of the Huntsman's lair and Jake, Grandpa and Fu go there. In the lair, as Jake, Grandpa and Fu are fighting the Huntsman and Huntsgirl, the beetle emerges into the light and resurrects everything. Jake stops them by burning the book and they get back the beetle, but unfortunately, Huntsgirl injures her leg. Rose can't make it to the play, and Jake ends up kissing Spud.

The next day, Rose, with her injured leg in a cast, apologizes for not being in the play, and Jake says it is cool and suggests that she audition for the next play, Romeo and Juliet. However, Trixie says, "Ahem!" and Jake says, "Or maybe we could go on a real date sometime?", to which Rose replies, "Yeah, I'd like that." Trixie and Spud congratulate him, but Jake just faints.

Allusions[]

  • The scene where the Huntsmaster's helmet is placed on his head is a reference to a similar scene with Darth Vader.
  • This episode reveals that Jake has a crush on Rose.
