The Acme Corporation is a fictional corporation that originated from Warner Bros. Cartoons' Road Runner/Wile E. Coyote shorts as a running gag featuring outlandish products that fail catastrophically at the worst possible times. Nowadays, the name is used as a generic title in many cartoons, films, and TV series. The company name is ironic since the word acme is derived from Greek (ακμή; English transliteration: acmē) meaning the peak, zenith or prime, and products from the company are both generic and tend to fail.

Appearances[]

Who Framed Roger Rabbit[]

Set in the 1940s, Acme is featured as the premier supplier for the Hollywood Toons' gags and props. The film addresses Acme's inner workings in detail: at the beginning of the film, it was run by CEO Marvin Acme, the founder of Acme Incorporated and owner of Toontown, and a prankster himself. The movie's plot is centered on the murder of Marvin Acme and the search for his will. Many of the film's scenes involve Acme products, and the climactic scene of the film is set in the Acme factory. The Acme Corporation also appeared to produce non-Toonish devices, and had a company slogan: "If it's Acme, it's a gasser."

Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers[]

The episode "Gadget Goes Hawaiian" features a Majestic Ultra-Light All-Weather Fiberglass Volcano from Acme Products.

G-Force[]

This movie reveals one of the branches of the Acme Corporation, ACME Exterminators. However, this branch is dissolved by the time the movie takes place.

Trivia[]

  • Although it can be so used, it is a misconception that ACME was intended by cartoonists to be an acronym standing for such things as "A Company Making Everything", "American Companies Make Everything" or "American Company that Manufactures Everything".
  • The filming location for the Acme factory in Who Framed Roger Rabbit is the Dimco buildings, located In Shepherd‘s Bush, England.
