- August - Michael Eisner and Jim Henson announce plans to merge Henson's company (which includes the Muppets) with the Disney company. Negotiations would fall apart following Henson's death in 1990.
- September 19 - The Library of Congress selects Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs to be placed on the National Film Registry as "culturally, historically or esthetically significant."
