"...To Die For" is an instrumental score from The Lion King. It was composed by Hans Zimmer.
Background[]
"...To Die For" is one of four instrumental scores from the official soundtrack.
The Lion King[]
This score is typically identified as the music for the stampede scene. It can be heard from when Simba first sees the wildebeest stampede to when he flees his father's dead body per Scar's encouragement.
The Stage Musical[]
Much the same as its movie counterpart, the score heard in the stage musical has a similar rhythm and an almost identical tune. However, the main difference is that the stage musical uses more prominent vocals as well as a wider array of instruments. In the original cast recording, the score is titled "Stampede".
The 2019 Remake[]
A reimagining of the full composition titled "Stampede" is played throughout the stampede scene. Throughout the score, it is played when the wildebeests charge down the gorge and the music even becomes intense when Mufasa and Simba are having trouble out of the gorge, where the intense melody becomes even more intense where Mufasa tries to ask for help, only for him to fall to his death, switching to a sorrowful melody. The score then ends where Simba is exiled from the Pride Lands as Scar takes place as new king.
Trivia[]
